The shaver excelled at those with fine-medium thickness of hair.īut it was not all good news. Because the blade doesn't cut as close it gives a less aggressive shave and performed well on those with sensitive skin.Ī light touch is a must, too much pressure will see the oneblade ravage your skin.īecause the OneBlade cuts on both the up and down stroke, the head adequately cut hairs that grow in different directions that are commonly found in the neck. It left a similar amount of hair as a rotary electric shaver. I was impressed with just how close the OneBlade could get. However, given that Philips Norelco has crammed a battery capable of offering 45 minutes of charge in such a slim handle, this can be somewhat forgiven. This is on the higher end of time required to charge a beardtrimmer/shaver. The NiMH battery needs 8 hours of charge provide just 45 minutes of charge time. The blade in particular is a stroke of genius that makes me feel excited for the future of electric shavers. While it is largely plastic with a silicone grip, it feels like a premium product. There is no arguing that Philips Norelco have designed a new and innovative product. I have been testing the OneBlade for the last three months with a group of others I have selected who have varying hair types. A low price point for a product that does "everything" as claimed would be a disaster from a business perspective since it canibilizes Philips Norelcos other products.Īfter trying for months last year to get into Philips "trial program" of the OneBlade where many of these positive reviews originated, I got fed up, flew to Germany and purchased a bunch of international models. And the OneBlade sounded too good to be true. I review electric shavers for my job, among other health and beauty products. I don't need to tell you that these are inherently biased reviews. This is because Philips awarded bribes prizes to those that uploaded a video that they approved of.Īs a result you will see video reviews of numerous males in their teens to late twenties praising the product. So much so that you cannot find a bad review of one. Philips has been very careful with the release of this product. Obviously, depending on how often you use your OneBlade and what your hair growth is like, you might get slightly more or less than this. Those of you who love new gadgets or have your ear to the ground in the shaving world will no doubt be aware of Philips Norelco's new beardtrimmer/shaver hybrid. Also, if you do want completely smooth facial features, it's easy to finish off with a standard razor once the OneBlade has made mincemeat of your several-days' growth.Įach blade lasts 3-4 months, so Philips describes a replacement three-pack as a year's supply. However, an increasing number of men don't want that totally clean-cut look anymore. Admittedly this means it doesn't give a perfectly smooth shave.
This is because, as noted above, it doesn't quite touch your skin, thanks to a narrow plastic guard. What impressed me even more was that there was almost no irritation – something I'm normally very prone to, in every sense, including facial. It's more reminiscent of using a lawnmower than a standard razor. In fact I would really recommend using it in the shower – or keeping a vacuum cleaner to hand – because it really does send hair everywhere.
The first time I used one, I was absolutely amazed at how rapidly and aggressively it removed my 4-5 days of stubble. The secret to its genius is that it vibrates extremely fast – 200x per second, apparently – without ever quite touching your face.

It looks a little like a manual razor, but it is electric. Philips OneBlade was little short of revolutionary when it first appeared a few years back.
